Joe Dallesandro Wins Teddy at Berlin International Film Festival

Yes the Germans are kinky, but not even the Germans would try to pass off a piece of lingerie as an award. No, the teddy in question here is a little golden statuette of a bear. The man immortalized as Little Joe in Lou Reed’s ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ won top honors at the Berlin International Film Festival this weekend. The lifetime achievement award, also known as a Teddy, which is given to GLBT films and filmmakers, comes on the heels of a new documentary about the boy who ‘Everyone had to pay and pay’. The film, directed by Nicole Haeusser is aptly-titled ‘Little Joe,’ a name that Mr. Dallesanrdo has carried with him literally (see the tattoo on his bicep) since he appeared in front of AMG founder Bob Mizer’s camera back in the 60s. Photos from that session appear in the documentary.

Congratulations Joe!
